About Us

Established in 2019, Gandhinagar Queer Pride Foundation (GQPF) is a prominent trans-youth-led organisation based in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The need for GQPF emanated from the observation of the pervasive sense of isolation and difference experienced by individuals across various parts of Gujarat, and India. Motivated by a commitment to alleviate this loneliness, GQPF was conceived with the resolve that no one should endure such isolation. Since its inception, the organisation has evolved into a growing family, fostering meaningful connections and individual growth.

Our aim at GQPF is to cultivate a SAFE and INCLUSIVE space for the Trans and Gender-Diverse communities, enabling individuals to embrace their authentic selves. While our initial focus is local and statewide, our overarching goal is global outreach.

What We Do

Gender Sensitization Sessions

Pride events

We conduct impactful Gender Sensitization workshops in various settings, including colleges, universities, corporates, and other organizations. These sessions aim to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the SOGIESC (Sexual Orientations, Gender Identities, and Expressions, and Sex Characteristics) communities.

Our foundation takes pride in organizing a variety of events, including Pride Parades, monthly community meetups, and the Indian Pride Festival. These gatherings serve as safe and inclusive spaces for SOGIESC communities, offering a platform for self-expression, visibility, and connection among members. We are the organizers of Pride Parades in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad cities.

Sexual Health Initiative

Crisis Intervention

We actively organize regular, free HIV-STIs testing camps and conduct informative sessions on safe-sex practices in collaboration with the Family Planning Association of India. This initiative aims to promote sexual health and safe sex practices within the SOGIESC communities.

We are committed to providing both financial and non-financial support to the SOGIESC community. Additionally, we engage in crisis intervention by rescuing individuals from hostile environments, helping tour members who have been scammed via dating apps, ensuring their safety and well-being.

GQPF Going Global

Distinguishing ourselves on the global stage, GQPF holds the unique position as the sole Indian organization serving as the Co-President of InterPride, an esteemed international pride organization network with a 43-year history. Our collaboration with InterPride reflects our dedication to advancing organizations in the Global South and contributing to the broader global pride movement.

People of GQPF

"To me, being part of the Gandhinagar Queer Pride community is about visibility, resilience, and self-expression.
It’s about holding space for ourselves and others, embracing who we are unapologetically, and finding strength in our stories.
As a queer designer, my work and identity are deeply intertwined, both are explorations of fluidity, color, and breaking traditional boundaries. GQPF represents a movement that is shaping a more inclusive and accepting world, and I’m proud to be a part of it."

- Silvi Panchal

We are Ammu and Kukku (Arun & Rohit). Attending the GQPF Pride event in Gandhinagar was an unforgettable experience. We felt an overwhelming sense of unity and pride as we joined the parade, waving flags and cheering for equality. The event was not just a celebration, but a powerful reminder of the progress we've made and the work still needed to ensure acceptance and equal rights for everyone.

The Gandhinagar Queer Pride Foundation is making significant strides in supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Through advocacy, awareness campaigns, and providing resources, they foster inclusivity and acceptance. Their work promotes equal rights, mental health support, and social recognition, helping create a more welcoming and safe environment for queer individuals in Gandhinagar."

- Ammu and Kukku

"GQPF, to me, is what chaas is to Gujarat.
I came back here after college with no friends nearby or anyone to roam around pretty Gujarat roads with. Then, after a grueling month of shifting huge bags and even bigger emotions all the same, I found GQPF and its people. It livened me up.

I haven’t known many queer collectives, except for working with a few, but from what I can see, GQPF is one of the collectives that genuinely cares about queer people. There is an honesty in them that is so rare and refreshing. These efforts aren’t just in the background, they glow and it shows in everything they’ve done, from parades to events, to hosting educational classes, and even in the Google Meet sessions."

- Ishita

"The Gandhinagar Queer Pride Foundation has been a source of strength and inspiration for me, providing a safe and supportive space to embrace my identity. Through their initiatives, I found a community that values inclusivity and acceptance, helping me connect with like-minded individuals who share similar experiences. Their events, discussions, and advocacy efforts have empowered me to be more vocal about LGBTQIA+ rights and fostered my personal growth. The foundation’s work has not only given me a sense of belonging but also reinforced my belief in the power of representation and solidarity."
